I agree. I started the whole review because Rosenberg's preposition seemed too simple. I found that OSS is not always cheaper, and stated that it does not have to be. What I *do* believe is that being transparent and upfront about pricing is helpful and consistent with the OSS spirit.
If it is about value, one should be able to establish that with ease. Downloadable software with source code helps, and so does published simple pricing.
